Given the priority given to the analysis of inequality in political theory in particular, it has been the work of egalitarian theorists that has provided the broad conceptual framework for the study. Egalitarian theory has enabled us to explore the discrete character of inequality for particular groups and the interface between these inequalities for other groups. Our methodological and conceptual approach to the subject therefore is eclectic. We adopt this strategy in an attempt to understand the microphysics of inequality, and as a way of identifying contexts for action.
